FAQ FOR PARENTS

This Page contains information about issues that may be of interest to you regarding the Firestarter Youth Festival

IT IS YOUR CHILDS’ RESPONSIBILITY TO STAY ON SITE DURING THE FESTIVAL. THE SITE IS OPEN, AND IF A CHILD DECIDES TO LEAVE SITE WITHOUT NOTIFYING US, WE WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM. IF YOUR CHILD HAS SPECIAL NEEDS OR YOU FEEL THEY MAY NOT UNDERSTAND THIS RULE, PLEASE CONTACT US.

When does Firestarter start?
Wednesday 18th August 2010 at midday.

When does Firestarter finish?
Sunday 22nd August 2010 at midday.

What does my child need to bring?
1. Something to lie on, a foam mat or mattress. This is really important, as it stops them losing body heat when sleeping. They won’t complain if they have loads of blankets to keep them snugly and warm.
2. Sleeping bag & tent
3. Wash kit & deodorant
4. Any medication they normally need – Please notify us if they carry any medication. If you child uses controlled drugs, it is the responsibility of the parent to administer these drugs. We cannot issue controlled drugs to your child.
5. Money for the Café - £40 will comfortably last the weekend
6. A couple of changes of clothing
7. Anything else they want for the festival
8. Mosquito spray
9. Raincoat & sun tan lotion

Will my child be fed?
Yes. 3 meals a day are included in the price.

What is the price?
£80 per child. Please email
firestarter@manx.net or call 801110 if this is a bit too pricey and let us know your circumstances:-
eg. You have 2 or more children who want to come.
Low income
The only person to read this email or take the call will be Tommy Harrison and he will make the decision regarding price. No one else will know.
Please don’t let price stop your child coming to Firestarter. We have a small allowance for discounts, so please get in early before it’s all spent.

Will my child be safe?

Probably; this is an adventure style weekend and there is always an element of risk. Every effort is made to keep your child safe. We have:-
• 24 hour security
• Separate Female & Male camping areas.
• First aiders
• We have a very strict child protection policy. After 6pm on Wednesday, when the Festival starts, every adult who comes onto site must report to the Office and will be escorted at all times when on site. This includes everyone from parents to the milkman.
• Men are not allowed into the female camping area, unless a female leader accompanies them. This includes male leaders, fathers and even the Police. This applies vice-versa for females in male camping areas.
• If anybody under the age of 16 is found with a person of the opposite ### in their tent, both sets of parents will be contacted.
This may result in the people involved being sent off site for one day or the whole event.

What about drugs & alcohol?
We do not allow drugs or alcohol on site. We reserve the right to search tent. If we find any of these items, it may result in the person being removed from the site, and if necessary, the Police will be informed.
If we find anyone with illegal drugs on site, we will inform the Police.

Do you have to be a Christian to go to Firestarter?

No. Anyone can go to Firestarter.

Policies
Firestarter has a Child Protection policy that has been approved by Social Services.
Firestarter has a comprehensive risk assessment for the event.
Firestarter is registered with Data Protection and adhere to their guidelines.

What about special medical & dietary requirements?
• We keep a database of any medical or special needs your child has, and we will inform the first aider or doctor as necessary.
• Vegetarian meals are available. Please let us know beforehand if your child is a vegetarian.
• If your child has a nut allergy or any other food allergy, please contact us to discuss meals. It is the responsibility of your child to check anything they purchase from the Café or Burger Bar for traces of nuts etc.
• Please let us know if your child has any other special needs that we may need to know
• You are free to inspect our menu, or our kitchen and we are happy to discuss any requirements you have. If your child carries Adrenaline or Antihistamines, we will need your signed authority to administer these drugs if your child goes into anaphylactic shock.
• Asthma – If your child has asthma, they must register when they come onto the site and let us know what type and colour of inhaler they use.
